Netherlands and into Germany

Such a variety of items are on display in the Rijksmuseum. Top left is a cabinet once owned by King William 11 and built around 1835; bottom right is a carved wooden fragment from the 'Altar of the Virgin' created in the 1400s for the chapel in 's Hertogenbosch; bottom left is a glazed eathernware altarpiece from 1502 originating in a Cortona Church in Italy. Top right is an oil on panel from the mid 1500s titled 'The well stocked Kitchen'. At first glance it appears to be about food but the background conceals the true message of Christ's visit to Mary and Martha: do not give in to earthly temptations.
